Research Positions
University of California Berkeley: graduate student, Zucker Lab (2003-2008)
Dissertation: “Neuroendocrinology of affiliative behavior in group-living rodents”
Conducted research on social bond formation, photoperiodism, and reproduction. Initiated independent line of research on non-sexual social bonding, started a vole colony, conducted field collecting trips to South America, and performed molecular and behavioral laboratory research.
Williams College: Adler Lab, 1996-1997
Molecular neurobiology research. Summer research and senior thesis on whether calcium entering neural cells through different channel types differentially affects gene expression in response to cell depolarization.
UCSF: Drug dependence research center, Mendelson Lab, Summer 1995
Behavioral pharmacology research. Tests of sublingual buprenorphine/naloxone therapy as a non-abusable therapy for opiate addiction. Studies of cocaine+alcohol and cocaethylene metabolites in human blood.
California Institute of Technology, Wold Lab, Spring/Summer 1994
Developmental and molecular biology. Engineered a reporter construct for the myogenin gene expressed in muscle tissue, for use in transgenic mice.
National Institutes of Health, Williams Lab, Summer 1992
Molecular biology internship. Created a soluble form of the erythropoietin receptor in order to understand receptor dimerization interactions during red blood cell development.
